Scholarships and Assistance Provided at Rameswaram while celebrating St. Mother Teresa’s 112th Birthday

The Mother Teresa Foundation celebrated the 112th Birthday of St. Mother Teresa. This event was organised in assosciation with The Parish Priest of the Soosaiapparpattinam Parish in Thangatchimadam Village, Rameswaram; Fr. Swaminathan. The event was headlined by K E Nassarkhan, District Chairman of Rameswaram. The event was also headed by, Pa. Jo. Martin Rajan, Thasildhar of Rameswaram. Special Guests included: B Queenmary, Panchayat President of Thangachimadam. P Sesuraja, President of The Ramanathapuram Fishermen Association.

During this event The Mother Teresa Foundation provided Scholarships to 53 School and College students under our Mother Teresa Scholarship Program. This is a follow up to the interview we conducted in the Month of July when our team visited Rameswaram. (Read about this…)

In addition, the students were provided with learning material such as Books, Notes and Stationery.

In addition to educational assistance, The Foundation under the Community Development Program provided 1 Wheel Chair to a differently-abled person. 3 tailoring machines were provided to help with the economic upliftment of 3 widows, and 1 Iron Box was provided to a poor person to help provide a source of income. 11 Families were provided with grocery and 10kgs of rice. All of these families have been adopted under this same program to be provided with grocery and livelihood assistance every month.

Seeing the plight of the fishermen community in Rameswaram, the chairman Dr. AR Savarimuthu has committed to further increase the level of support provided to the people of this island. There are many more areas in which our efforts can bring about a big change to the lives and livelihood of the local population.
