Institutional Leadership and Administrative Excellence
Head of Department (2014–2018)
As Head of the Department of Manufacturing Engineering, Dr. Hariharan led comprehensive modernization efforts, including renovation of academic spaces, enhancement of accessibility through infrastructure improvements, and establishment of advanced research laboratories featuring 5-axis CNC and micro-machining systems. He introduced best practices such as the 5S methodology, supported by industry collaboration, and fostered a culture of innovation and
technical excellence.
Executive Warden, CEG Hostels (2009–2020)
In one of his most impactful roles, Dr. Hariharan transformed the hostel ecosystem at CEG. He expanded accommodation capacity from 1,500 to 4,000 students, established a mega dining facility with 1,500 seating capacity, and introduced modern amenities including steam-based cooking systems, dishwashers, and energy-efficient infrastructure.
He pioneered digital transformation in hostel management by implementing Tamil Nadu’s first online hostel management portal (2014), enabling seamless administration, fee collection, and inventory control. His initiatives in student welfare included the establishment of a Student Amenities Centre, appointment of professional counsellors, and reintroduction of postgraduate accommodation.
His focus on sustainability led to the installation of solar power systems, rainwater harvesting, water reuse mechanisms, and green campus initiatives. Under his leadership, all hostel messes achieved FSSAI certification, ensuring high standards of food safety and quality.
Director – Centre for Student Affairs (2018–2021)
Dr. Hariharan implemented a centralized online fee collection system covering over 450 affiliated colleges, significantly improving administrative efficiency and transparency. He also introduced structured documentation practices and streamlined grievance redressal mechanisms, enhancing student satisfaction and institutional responsiveness.
Director – Centre for Constituent Colleges (2021–Present)
In this role, he has overseen large-scale faculty and infrastructure development across Anna University’s constituent colleges. He facilitated the regularization of faculty and staff, managed complex administrative processes including transfers and promotions, and enabled major infrastructure investments totaling ₹72.95 Crores across 14 colleges.
He played a pivotal role in conceptualizing and advancing the Common Engineering Facility Centre (₹400 Crores) in collaboration with TIDCO and Tata Technologies, aimed at creating world-class facilities in design, simulation, and advanced manufacturing.
His contributions to student welfare include book banks for SC/ST students, skill development programs for over 1,400 girl students, and deployment of smart campus solutions such as IoT-enabled facilities.
Dean, College of Engineering Guindy (2025–Present)
As Dean of CEG, Dr. Hariharan continues to drive academic innovation and infrastructure development. He has introduced student-driven initiatives such as Quantum Computing, FinTech, and Additive Manufacturing Clubs, fostering interdisciplinary learning and future-ready skills.
He has spearheaded modernization of classrooms through digital interactive boards and significantly enhanced campus infrastructure and student amenities, including IoT-enabled laundry systems, upgraded gyms, and improved connectivity across hostel facilities.
A key highlight of his tenure is the mobilization of ₹7.25 Crores through CSR and alumni contributions, supporting initiatives such as AR/VR laboratories, virtual CNC simulators, robotics kits, smart communication systems, and healthcare facility upgrades.
