Free Legal Aid Camp for Single Mothers

Access to justice is a fundamental right, yet many vulnerable women struggle to seek legal support due to lack of awareness, financial constraints, or fear. To address this need, the Mother Teresa Foundation, in collaboration with the Thanjavur District Legal Services Authority, organized a Free Legal Aid Camp for Single Mothers.

This initiative focused on supporting single mothers, destitute women, spinsters, differently abled women, and other vulnerable groups. The camp aimed to create awareness about legal rights and provide direct assistance to those facing unresolved legal issues. It marked a significant step towards ensuring justice reaches those who need it the most.

Awareness on Legal Services and Rights

During the camp, members of the legal services authority created awareness about the role and services offered by the institution. The panel included legal experts such as V. Suresh Metha, B. Santhiya Vedha, and Vijaya Kumar.

They explained the various legal support systems available for women, including assistance in family disputes, property rights, domestic issues, and documentation. The session helped participants understand that legal support is accessible and available free of cost through the authority.

This awareness created confidence among the women to come forward and seek help without hesitation.

Personal Interaction and Case Discussions

A key highlight of the Free Legal Aid Camp for Single Mothers was the one-on-one interaction between the legal experts and participants. The team patiently listened to the concerns and legal issues faced by the women.

Each participant was given an opportunity to share her case in a safe and supportive environment. The legal team provided initial counseling, guidance, and clarity on the possible legal steps that could be taken.

This personal interaction helped many women feel heard, understood, and supported-something they had been waiting for a long time.

Collection of Petitions and Further Action

As part of the camp, petitions were collected from the applicants for further legal processing. The legal services authority assured that these cases would be taken forward and addressed through proper legal channels.

This step ensured that the camp was not limited to awareness alone but extended to real action and follow-up. The beneficiaries were guided on what to expect in the next stages of their cases.

For many participants, this was the first time their issues were formally recorded and taken up for resolution.
