A Step Towards Empowerment: Single Mothers Certificate Camp in Mother Teresa Foundation
On 13th September 2025, the Mother Teresa Foundation hosted a transformative camp under its Single Mothers Rehabilitation Program at the Foundation premises. This special initiative exclusively supported 25 single mothers from Thiruvarur district, helping them apply for vital government certificates that will open the doors to various welfare schemes and long-term empowerment. So this is a Game Changer and Eye opening Program for Single Mothers.

For many of these women, this was more than just paperwork—it was a gateway to dignity, security, and opportunities they had long been denied.
Why the Single Mothers Certificate Camp Matters
Health, education, and livelihood opportunities are the backbone of progress, yet many single mothers, destitute women, and spinsters remain outside government welfare systems simply because they lack essential documentation.
The challenges they face include:

- Living below the poverty line with no financial security.
- Lack of awareness about government welfare schemes due to illiteracy.
- Absence of certificates required to access pensions, subsidies, or educational benefits for their children.
By organizing such certificate camps, the Mother Teresa Foundation is bridging the gap between government welfare departments and the most vulnerable women in society.
Certificates Applied at the Camp
During the camp, volunteers and staff guided the women in applying for essential documents such as:

- Widow Certificate
- Destitute Widow Certificate
- Deserted Women Certificate
- Unmarried Women Certificate
- Nativity Certificate
- Community Certificate
- Income Certificate
- Legal Heir Certificate
- First Graduate Certificate
These certificates are critical not only for availing welfare schemes but also for securing educational and employment opportunities for their children.
Additionally, by registering these women with the Widows and Destitute Women Welfare Board (WDWWB), they become eligible for:

- Widow Pension
- Deserted Women Pension
- Unmarried Women Pension
- Old Age Pension
- Support for starting small cottage industries
Importantly, all these services were provided free of cost, ensuring that financial barriers do not stop deserving women from accessing their rights.
Impact of the Camp
The Single Mothers Certificate Camp proved to be a turning point for the 25 participants. With proper documentation in hand, they now have the power to:
- Access government schemes and pensions.
- Provide better education for their children.
- Start small businesses or income-generating activities.
- Reduce dependency and live with dignity.
This initiative doesn’t just solve an immediate problem—it lays the foundation for a secure and sustainable future for single mothers and their families.

Voices of Change
Many of the women expressed their gratitude, sharing that they had been struggling for years without access to benefits simply because they lacked certificates. For them, this camp symbolized hope, empowerment and Future Developments.
Mother Teresa Foundation’s Commitment
Through the Single Mothers Rehabilitation Program, the Mother Teresa Foundation reaffirms its mission to uplift the underserved. These camps are not one-time events but part of a continuous effort to ensure that no woman is left behind due to lack of awareness or resources.
By simplifying complex processes and handholding the beneficiaries, the Foundation ensures that these women can step into a brighter, more dignified future.
