In Thanjavur District, a man named Madhesh Kumar—a differently abled individual who cared for his elderly parents—found himself in a heartbreaking situation when his fragile hut collapsed. With no income, no support, and no way to repair his home, he walked into the Foundation seeking help, holding nothing but courage and hope.

This is the story of how compassion rebuilt a home—and restored a family’s dignity.

A Life of Struggle: Understanding Madhesh’s Journey

From the age of seven, polio affected Madhesh’s legs, leaving him with restricted mobility. Today, at 40, he moves with the help of underarm crutches. Despite his physical challenges, he has always been the strength of his family.

Raised in Puliyancheri, Kumbakonam Taluk, he supports his aged parents, especially after his elder brother’s untimely death. The family survives on a ₹2,000 disability pension—barely enough for basic needs, let alone emergency expenses.

Yet, Madhesh never gave up.

Differently Abled Housing Support: Rebuilding a Damaged Home

When heavy rains and time weakened his already fragile hut house, the roof collapsed. Living under unsafe conditions, with elderly parents depending entirely on him, Madhesh was left hopeless.

Through the Differently Abled Housing Support program, Mother Teresa Foundation stepped forward with two crucial forms of help:

1. House Renovation Support

• Complete replacement of the broken roof

2. Medical Support for His Ailing Father

For a man who had sold his only auto rickshaw to save his father’s life, this support meant everything.
