The Mother Teresa Foundation continues its mission to empowering lives to the underserved by addressing the pressing needs of marginalized communities. In a recent field visit to Muthupet, a small village in Thiruvarur district, the Foundation’s Chairman and team witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by families grappling with poverty and disability.There is no proper breadwinner in the family, and Visvalingam, a single father, finds it nearly impossible to maintain a regular income. As a result, the family depends heavily on government schemes and NGO support such as old age pensions and freebies from the Mother Teresa Foundation.
1. Home Renovation for a Family in Dire Conditions
The team met Visvalingam, a humble villager whose home was in extremely poor condition—structurally unsafe and unsuitable for living, particularly during monsoon seasons or extreme heat. The house lacked even basic facilities, posing a daily risk to the health and safety of the family.
Moved by their plight, the Foundation pledged to renovate the home as soon as possible, ensuring a safe and dignified living space for the family.
2. Medical Assistance for ailing Palani Durai
Visvalingam’s son, Palani Durai, suffers from severe medical issues, including a urinary tract infection that has impeded his ability to urinate normally for over 25 years. As a result, he is often forced to remain in an idle position for prolonged periods and is almost completely immobile.
Understanding the family’s financial hardship, the Mother Teresa Foundation assured ongoing medical support, including medicines and necessary care, to improve Palani Durai’s condition and overall well-being.
3. Mobility Support for Physically Challenged Pakkirisamy
Another son, Pakkirisamy, is physically challenged, not by birth but due to a condition that developed over the past 20 years. Now aged 45, he has been immobile for decades, severely limiting his ability to work or support the family.
In a heartfelt gesture, the Mother Teresa Foundation provided him with a Tri-Cycle, significantly enhancing his mobility and offering a renewed sense of freedom and independence.
