Puthiya Pathai – A New Way: Empowering Single Mothers and Destitute Women

An event dedicated to empowering single mothers and destitute women was organised on 4th of January 2025. This event, which took place in Thanjavur, saw an overwhelming response, with a registration count of 2,562 participants. It became a beacon of hope and a platform for inspiration, support, and solidarity for women in need. The event highlighted the support available to single mothers and the various schemes they can use to further improve the quality of their lives.

This event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of The Black Tulip Group from Dubai, a key supporter of initiatives aimed at uplifting marginalized communities. Their commitment to social responsibility played a significant role in ensuring the success of this impactful gathering.

The event was graced by distinguished Chief Guests: Mr. Mohammed Ehiya of Black Tulip Group, Dubai, and Mr. Arulsoosai of Max Arul Foundation. Both guests expressed their unwavering support for the mission of The Mother Teresa Foundation. In their heartfelt addresses, they acknowledged the importance of such initiatives in creating a more inclusive and compassionate society. Their words resonated deeply with the attendees, reinforcing the message of hope and collective action.

The event was also graced by Mr. Panthal R. Siva of Siva & Co. who graciously sponsored the event venue and it’s grand decoration; all created and curated by himself. The Foundation thanks him and his team without who’s support we will not be able to organise such large scale events that help us reach more beneficiaries.

Scholarships amounting to a total of Rs. 3,00,000 (3 Lakhs) were awarded to 31 children of Single Parents at this event. A laptop was provided to a Selvi Abhika studying 6th grade in St. Annes Matric Hr. Sec. School Akkalmadam, Rameswaram.

All of the attendees were gifted a saree at the end of the event sponsored by The Black Tulip Group.

One of the highlights of the event was the series of motivational speeches delivered by accomplished individuals who have dedicated their lives to advocating for social justice and women’s rights:

Ms. R Uma from The Dravidian Movement Tamil Council shared her insights on the significance of empowering women as a catalyst for broader societal change. Her powerful and thought-provoking speech captivated the audience, inspiring many to rise above their circumstances.

Mrs. Renuka Oliver, a distinguished lawyer and psychiatrist serving as an officer in the Widows and Abandoned Women Welfare Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu, provided invaluable guidance on overcoming adversity. Her deep understanding of the psychological and legal challenges faced by widows and abandoned women offered a path of empowerment and resilience.

The event was a testament to the strength of collective action and the importance of fostering supportive communities. Each attendee left with renewed confidence and actionable resources, including access to ongoing programs and services offered by The Mother Teresa Foundation. This event marks another step forward in the organization’s mission to create a world where every woman, regardless of her background, can live with dignity, security, and hope.
