Observing International Transgender Day

Transgender are one of the most discriminated and neglected groups in our society, who are struggling in every aspect of life. Their right to vote, right to employment, right to education among others, are all denied and are thoroughly under-valued.

Keeping this fact in mind, the Foundation have initiated the Mother Teresa Transgender Empowerment Program . An initiative that would provide Transgender with a respectable life, a life that is worth living.

This is an initiative that would help them and support them in so many different ways, by offering education, healthcare, legal aid, counseling, setting up of business units among others. And the “International Transgender Day Celebration” was the first major step towards bringing everyone under one single roof, in making them aware as to what we have in store for them.

The turn-out has been wonderful with close to a 100 Transgender being present at the venue, and the participation has been very engaging. And it has ignited that much needed spark in many of their hearts, who are all actively looking for a bright future and a career. And we have earned their utmost trust and respect.

Moreover, on this special occasion, the hon’ble Mayor of our Corporation Mr. Shan Ramanathan participated as Chief Guest and provided tricycles, bicycles, sewing machines, cattle, and rice & groceries to all the deserving Transgender. The district Social Welfare Dept Officer too graced this special occasion and motivated the Transgender to come up in life by using various opportunities that are provided by the govt and NGOs. Concerns regarding issuance of proper ID cards, housing, accommodation, employment, education were all noted and addressed as well.

And we hope to continue doing such service for such communities for many more generations to come.

Mother Teresa Foundation provided life support materials and employment opportunity for Transgender, and motivated them to live with honor and dignity
