Mother Teresa Foundation, Thanjavur provided life support equipments worth Rs. 25 Lakhs for the livelihood of over 300 differently abled and 20 Trans on the occasion of the function held on 15th instant in Thanjavur to mark the International Day of Disability. Hon’ble Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Minister for school education, Tamil Nadu handed over the equipments to the beneficiaries. In his key note address, he appreciated the good work being done by the Foundation over the years. And assured all possible help from their side. He hailed the confidence being repost by the under served in the services rendered by the Foundation, and wished all success in the future endeavors. He further said whatever the people expect from the govt. is being fulfilled by the Foundation through the support to the marginalized. Thiru. T.K.G Neelamegam, MLA, Thanjavur and Thiru. Durai Chandrasekaran, MLA, Thiruvaiyaru, Thiru. Kovi Chezhian, MLA and chief Govt. whip and hosts of Government officials, prominent industrialists, senior doctors and functionaries of service organizations and prominent persons in all walks of life participated in the function.
124 students studying in govt. blind school from 6th-12th grade have been provided with audio device, pen drive, and headset. 21 were given artificial limbs, 24 person with wheelchairs, 25 with tricycle. Further, 7 deaf and dumb were given hearing aid, and 13 with crutch. On the business side, 23 persons were given sewing machines, 2 were given push carts and 20 Transgender were given all necessary equipment including gas, stove, generator, fitted on a push cart. And those Trans proficient in dancing, have been provided with dance materials and one of them provided books for preparing for entrance test for SI post. In addition to these, 39 vulnerable families were given bags containing rice, groceries, medicines, dresses, and monetary assistance. 32 economically poor children were given scholarship, and smart phones.
AR. Savarimuthu, chairman in his welcome address outline the nature of service projects for the vulnerable and marginalized. The arrangements for the mega function were made by Trustees A.R. Sampath Raghavan, H. Govindaraj and Murali krishnan participated in the function. Shri. Rathish kumar, project director, Mrs. Mercy, Administrative Manager, Shri. Jerome, Logistics Manager, Viji, Rani, Public relation officials and Maheshwaran, Social media coordinator made arrangements for the function.
